About Us
“Arakai Estate is a Moreton Bay producer of tea, timber, avocados and ginger.
They produce whole leaf green and black tea, with four different tea products: Spring Flush Green, Spring Flush Black, Premium Green and Premium Black. Their Spring Flush Green and Black teas come from the first harvest in spring after a winter dormancy. This first harvest is the prime cut of tea, prized around the world for its unique qualities of flavour, aroma, and cup smell.
They also produce plantation cabinet timbers, avocados and, from 2019, ginger.
Background
Arakai Estate was started in 1999 by Darryl and Lorraine Collins, with a total of 56Ha of high country at Bellthorpe. Around 10Ha of land was cleared for growing plantation timbers. Their son, Brendon and his partner Kristie, took over management in 2008, expanding into avocados and beginning tea (1Ha) in 2010. Their first tea harvest, in 2015, took out multiple Australian awards and Arakai continues to be awarded annually.

Did you know?
‘Arakai’ is a word made up by Brendon, referring to the large plantings of Araucaria trees (hoop and bunya pine).
They started harvesting and pruning tea with the ‘Mighty Bike Harvester’ – a home-made harvester with bike frames and supports that went for 7 years and was pushed 1000+km.
The farm is now three times its original size (160Ha).”
